Achievements in the field of Research and Community Service (PPM)

In order to realize the synergistic and sustainable Tri Dharma of higher education, the implementation of research at FATETA IPB has been designed in such a way as in the FATETA IPB Research and Community Service (PPM) roadmap guide which is coordinated by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB. The research activities carried out by FATETA IPB are carried out in line with the aim of realizing IPB as a world-class research-based university by increasing the quality and quantity of research as the basis for implementing the Tri Dharma of higher education.

In detail, the implementation of research at FATETA IPB aims to support IPB towards a world-class research-based university; establish and develop a leading research umbrella (grand research); explore and improve the efficiency of the use of research funds; increase the focus of research in order to achieve IPB as a world-class research-based university in producing human resources who are pious, independent, and intellectual in line with the development of science and technology; improve the quality and productivity of research in the form of publications in national and international scientific forums, publications in accredited national journals (SINTA) and reputable international journals, teaching materials, appropriate technology, and intellectual property rights; increase the relevance of the use of research results within the framework of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education; and increasing the role of FATETA IPB in accelerating regional and national development towards a prosperous Indonesian society. FATETA IPB has had a proud track record of research reputation.

In the field of PPM, the entire Fateta Department with quality students and lecturers has collaborated with various parties in the context of service and community service. The following is more detailed information regarding the focus of research and community service carried out by all departments at FATETA:

The scope of the research study areas of the TMB Department include the design and engineering of machinery and equipment, the study of agricultural production mechanization, the application of computer and electronic technology for production and manufacturing systems, bio-sensors and bio-informatics, alternative (renewable) energy, physical, mechanical and chemical properties. electro-optics of agricultural materials and products, methods of analysis of agricultural materials and products, as well as techniques for improving work efficiency and safety. Improvements in laboratory equipment resources and facilities are also continuously carried out in order to fulfill quality research, especially on these areas of study.

The PkM activity of the TMB Department is the application of science and technology in the field of agricultural engineering to help the community solve the problems they face or do their work more efficiently. TMB and PS TPB as well as external condition factors that are relevant to the field of agricultural engineering, both nationally and internationally.

The Department of Foof Science and Technology continuously strengthens its research quality in the area of food security and food safety based on local/tropical resources.  These research area are strategic as driving factors to improve nation’s competitiveness. Research in food security will contribute to develop convenient, nutritious and safe local processed foods. Meanwhile, research in food safety area will contribute to the development of foods that are safe for human consumption, which is free of biological, chemical and physical hazards as well as provides protection to consumers from contaminated, unsafe, and adulterated foods. Overall, our research program will contribute to increase competitive advantages of local foods with improved quality and safety.

The research focus of the Department of Agricultural Industrial Technology is divided into seven divisions including: (1) Engineering and Industrial Systems Division; (2) Process Technology Division; (3) Bioindustry Division; (4) Quality control division; (5) Division of Packaging, Storage, and Transportation System Technology; (6) Division of Engineering and Environmental Management and; (7) Division of Business and Industrial Applications. The following is an explanation of the research areas of each division:

  • Industrial Systems and Engineering Division
    Production systems, industrial design, supply chain management, human resources and engineering knowledge, methodologies and application of software and hardware systems to improve effectiveness, efficiency, productivity and agro-industry networks, total quality management, modern industrial support systems, modeling and simulation, computers assisted control techniques (CACE) in agroindustry.
  • Process Technology Division
    Design and development of process technology to increase added value, multiple scale studies, development of new materials and products.
  • Bioindustry Division
    Bioprocess kinetics and optimization, Design and development of biotechnological processes (microbial fermentation, enzymatic conversion, and cellular (plant) conversion) for bio-industry, bioreactor design, production and development of new bioproducts (enzymes, bioinsecticides, biopolymers, biosurfactants, bioenergy) for various use.
  • Quality Control Division
    Study of material and product quality, development and application of quality control techniques for materials and processes, development and application of quality testing/analysis techniques.
  • Packaging, Storage and Transportation Systems Technology Division
    Development of new packaging materials, migration/interaction of packaging materials and products, application and development of packaging technology, application and development of storage and warehousing techniques, and transportation systems for agricultural commodities and agro-industrial products.
  • Environmental Engineering and Management Division
    Agro-industrial environmental planning, development and application of waste minimization techniques, clean production, eco-efficiency, development of industrial waste management technology (liquid, gas, solid waste and hazardous and toxic/B3) materials, bioremediation, development of environmental management systems (environmental management system/ EMS), and development of clean water/drinking water supply technology.
  • Business and Industrial Applications Division
    Development and study of agro-industrial technology, development of technological innovation ideas, development of agro-industry business plans, feasibility studies, business prospect studies, supply chains of agro-industrial commodities and products, and application of information technology (Computer Aided Design for Industrial Business and Industrial Application/CADIBIA).

The focus of PPM includes the development and application of engineering knowledge for planning and managing water resources, infrastructure and buildings, as well as dealing with pollution and environmental sanitation. Each division in the SIL Department conducts research in accordance with the division’s mandate with the following scope.

  1. Development and application of engineering knowledge in planning, design and management of structures and infrastructure.
  2. Development and application of engineering science to prevent (preventing), reduce (reducing), and treat (treat) air, water and soil pollution as well as improve the quality of environmental sanitation.
  3. Development and application of engineering knowledge in planning, design and management of water resources and their buildings.
  4. Development and application of geomatics engineering for planning, design, analysis and evaluation in civil and environmental engineering.
