Developing Indonesian Agriculture With Innovation and Technology

The Department of Mechanical and Biosystem Engineering (TMB) is one of four departments in the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FATETA) IPB. Historically, since 1960 the Agricultural Mechanization Division is a part of the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Indonesia.
When IPB University was established in 1963, the government also realized the importance of higher education in the fields of technology and agricultural mechanization. In the same year, the Department of Higher Education and Science (PTIP) asked IPB to collect all existing facilities at IPB to be able to establish a faculty in this field. Finally, on October 3, 1964, the Faculty of Technology and Agricultural Mechanization, abbreviated as FATEMETA, was established with two majors of study, the Department of Agricultural Product Technology and the Department of Agricultural Mechanization.

TMB programs goal as follow:

  1. Produce graduates in civil and environmental engineering who are competent and have strong competitiveness in the global job market.
  2. Develop innovative, basic, applied, and strategic researches to support the teaching and learning process as well as the development of science and technology in line with the needs and challenges in society.
  3. Implementing discoveries in the field of civil and environmental engineering in addressing community problems and to enrich the educational process.
  • Mastering basic knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering and processes as well as K3 (occupational health and safety) for civil and environmental engineering.
  • Able to identify and formulate structural and infrastructure problems, water resources, and environmental pollution and sanitation.
  • Mastering knowledge of construction engineering for the field of civil and environmental engineering.
  • Able to design, implement and operate and maintain environmentally sound civil engineering buildings.
  • Able to use the latest techniques, skills and tools to solve problems in the field of civil and environmental engineering.
  • Able to analyze and interpret data and information and make the right decisions to solve problems in the field of civil and environmental engineering.
  • Able to adapt to changes and developments in science and technology in the fields of civil and environmental engineering.

The profiles of graduates of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Study Program of IPB are as follows:

  • Have the ability in the field of engineering for identification, design, implementation/development and maintenance of structures and infrastructure, water resources, pollution and environmental sanitation, as well as having a strong basis for further education
  • Have a strong ability and foundation in using the latest technology tools in interpreting data and information to work in various fields of the civil and environmental engineering profession.
  • Have managerial skills, communicate and collaborate in groups to improve competence in the fields of structural engineering, infrastructure, water resources, environment, and geomatics according to applicable standards by upholding professional ethics.
